One versatile reloading die rack system for every setup
Most die holders are stuck in one spot and one size for good. This one packs 8 or 16 dies close together, keeps every one easy to grab and works wherever you have room: freestanding or screwed to the bench, or on the wall.
- Capacity (16 slot): 16 dies in two rows of 8, plus 4 shell holders
- Capacity (8 slot): 8 dies in two rows of 4, plus 2 shell holders
- Fits: Standard 7/8-14 dies with lock rings up to 1-3/8 in across
- Bases: Weighted benchtop stand, Bring Your Own Ballast benchtop stand or wall mount base; racks swap between them
- Size (benchtop stand): 16 slot is 10.75 in wide, 8 slot is 7 in wide; both are 5 in deep and 5.5 in tall
- Size (wall mount base): 16 slot is 10.75 in wide, 8 slot is 5.25 in wide; both are 2.75 in deep and 5.75 in tall
- Material: US-made PCTG, a tough engineering polymer
- Color: Black
- Mounting: Benchtop stand is freestanding or screws to the bench; wall mount base hangs from two screws. Both take #6 or #8 screws (not included)

One rack system, three bases: Every Die Holder is a rack set on one of three bases: the weighted benchtop stand, the Bring Your Own Ballast stand or the wall mount base. Racks swap between bases, so your holder can grow, shrink or relocate as your bench changes. Step up from 8 to 16 slots with a new rack set, or move your racks from the bench to the wall. Extra bases and rack sets are sold separately in our Reloading Die Holder Parts listing.
Made for big die collections: Run a progressive press? Your specialty dies, like decappers and bullet pullers, finally have a home, along with the spares that don't live in a toolhead. Load lots of calibers on a single-stage press? Every die is ready to pull and thread in.
Keep each caliber together: Each group of four die slots has its own shell holder spot, so a full die set and its shell holder stay together. The spots fit standard shell holders from Hornady, RCBS, Redding, Lee and others.
Room for long dies: On the benchtop stand, both rows are angled, so top-row dies have about 7 in of clearance below the lock ring. In the bottom row, the slots over the feet (four on the 16 slot, two on the 8 slot) allow 2-1/8 in below the lock ring, and the rest allow 3 in. On the wall mount base, every slot allows about 2-5/8 in below the lock ring. On either base, there's no practical limit above the lock ring.
Tested with dies from: Lee, RCBS, Hornady and Dillon. Other brands should fit too, since 7/8-14 dies share a standard diameter. Each die needs a lock ring to hang in its slot. Dies with Hornady Lock-N-Load or Lee Breech Lock bushings installed won't fit.
Stable without screws: On the weighted benchtop stand, steel shot in the feet keeps the center of gravity low. The stand stays planted whether it's full, empty or loaded on one side only. The mounting holes are there if you'd rather make it permanent.
Bring Your Own Ballast: Already have shotgun shot, bullets or other weight on hand? The Bring Your Own Ballast versions are the same 8 or 16 slot stand with empty feet, at a lower price. Each foot holds about 1.7 cubic inches, roughly 4.5 oz of steel shot or 6.5 oz of lead shot. The feet ship separately from the brackets with a cap over the cavity. Remove the cap, fill the foot, then screw it to its bracket. The bracket covers the opening but doesn't seal it, so we don't recommend anything fine enough to trickle out, like sand. If you use sand anyway, seal it in with a layer of epoxy before attaching the foot. The stability described above assumes a full load of steel or lead shot. Lighter fill won't be as stable, but the mounting holes are always an option.
Wall mount base: No room on your bench or shelves for a stand? The wall mount base puts your dies on the wall, makes better use of vertical space and costs less than the benchtop stands. Each bracket hangs from a single screw at the top, and its bottom rests against the wall. Assemble the holder first and hang it as one piece so everything lines up. It takes #6 or #8 screws with any common head, like pan or flat head, in a length that suits what you're mounting to. It goes on any surface strong enough to hold it with screws or anchors, and several can hang side by side or stacked.
Use the right anchors: Proper anchors are a must, since they set how much the wall mount can hold. Put one screw in a stud and the other in an anchor, or use two anchors or a backer board. On drywall, use anchors with a heavy load rating, like Twist-N-Lock style anchors, toggle bolts or something equally strong. With anchors like these, the wall mount has easily held a full load of dies for years in our testing. Skip the ribbed plastic expansion anchors from typical assortment kits, since they pull out too easily. Hanging several side by side on drywall? Space them far enough apart for your anchors. A backer board removes that limit.
Built to take abuse: PCTG was chosen for its toughness. It's impact resistant and rigid enough to hold 16 steel dies. It also resists most solvents and chemicals used around firearms.
In the box:
- 2 racks
- 2 brackets, benchtop or wall mount depending on your base
- Benchtop stands only: 2 feet with rubber pads and threaded inserts installed, each with a cap attached for shipping. Weighted feet come filled with steel shot; Bring Your Own Ballast feet come empty.
- M3 x 8 mm socket head cap screws: 12 with a benchtop stand, 4 with the wall mount base
Built to keep running: Need a replacement part? Racks and bases are sold separately in our Reloading Die Holder Parts listing, and you can email us at mail@purpleprimer.us for anything else. If you'd rather source your own hardware, here's what we use:
- Screws: M3 x 8 mm socket head cap screws (12 for a benchtop stand, 4 for the wall mount base)
- Rubber pads (benchtop stand): 3/8 in diameter x 1/8 in tall rubber bumpers (8), manufacturer part number BS34BL12X25RP
- Ballast (benchtop stand): Steel or lead shot ballast. Standard shotgun shot also works, but shot sold as ballast is much cheaper. We use steel shot ballast from RotoMetals.
Fit Guarantee: The Die Holder is built around the standard 7/8-14 die, so most dies drop right in. If it doesn't work with your dies, contact us. Send it back within 30 days of receiving it and we'll refund you. See our refund policy for details.
Hornady, Lee, RCBS, Redding, Dillon and other brands are named only to describe compatibility or sourcing. Purple Primer Store is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
